The adventure starts in the city of Split
If you are visiting this jewel on the Mediterranean, medieval cities, the mix of east and west, surely, you’ll have to include this wonder of nature in your path. Split to Plitvice lakes adventure starts with a ride aboard an air-conditioned bus taking you across the highway to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders – Plitvice lakes national park. We will leave Split at 7 am.
Plitvice Lakes National Park
Upon arrival to Plitvice, around 10 am, you are free to explore the National park on your own. Here you can find information about the park and how to navigate the most stunning destination in Croatia.
Plitvice Lakes national park is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Croatia. Thanks to its natural beauty, this group of 16 interlinked lakes was set as a national park in 1949 and in 1979 the park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. These sixteen interconnected lakes are divided into two parts – 12 Upper lakes and four Lower Lakes. The Upper and Lower lakes are surrounded by lush vegetation. Dense forests are covering almost 80% of park vegetation. The park is also home to a wide variety of animal and bird species. Fauna such as the European brown bear, wolf, lynx and wild cat can be found there. Also, at least 126 species of birds have been recorded here.
To enter the park, a ticket is required. The entrance ticket is not included in the price of this tour, so it is up to you to buy it in the ticket offices as you enter the park. Once inside the park, you can choose from several different paths around the lakes different in both time and difficulty. Be sure that the paths are very well maintained and marked. The views are spectacular: lakes, numerous waterfalls and a special attraction Great Waterfall, a 100-foot waterfall. This awe-inspiring sight is the right place to take as many photos as you like. Do not miss scenic boat ride on the electric boats on the biggest lake – Kozjak Lake. The ride on a boat is included in the price of the entrance ticket.
Have the chance to taste local cuisine in an authentic setting and taste the local cuisine in the ambiance of a traditional tavern. You will probably enjoy delicacies made mostly of dried pork such as prosciutto, sausages and bacon. Homemade cheese is almost always served called” škripavac”. As for the main dishes, most of them contain meat, like a grilled lamb which is always prepared for special occasions. When it comes to vegetables served as a side dish, it will probably be potatoes, beans and greens.
Finally, there are souvenir shops at the main entrance of the park. Do not forget to buy souvenirs that will remind you of this perfect day.
Return to the city of Split
Around 15:30 we will board back on an air-conditioned bus and head towards the city of Split. Our arrival is expected to be around 18:00.
