Are you planning on spending your holiday in Croatia? Your To-Do-List should start with visit to Plitvice Lakes. This national park is enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage List and it is the oldest Croatian national park (1949). Its 70 anniversary is approaching on April 8th and it is a great opportunity to visit this nature phenomenon. The lakes are amazing and they will leave you breathless!
Plitvice Lakes are located in Lika-Senj County, easily reachable from all parts of Croatia. National park consist of 16 lakes (Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes) connected by waterfalls. The natural beauty of the waterfalls, the incredible layout and design of the walkways is breathtaking to the sights it all brings you. Plitvice are widely popular and therefore one million people visit each year. Park offers different activities: lake tour programs, hiking, skiing and sleighing and cycling. Lake tour programs you will see on your map as soon as we arrive to one of two entrances. There are seven different routes how you can tour lakes and four hiking trails. Skiing is possible only in winter obviously, whereas cycling is allowed in certain areas of the park.
National park is open all year round. As any other national park, it has some rules visitors are required to follow. Stay on the marked trails; take litter with you etc… However, the most important rule to keep in mind is that you are not allowed to collect plants or to feed animals. Swimming in the lakes although it can seem appealing is not allowed either. Still you will enjoy beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous green lakes.
How to get here
The easiest way to reach Plitvice Lakes is to book a tour with us ( https://visiting-croatia.com/plitvice-lakes/). We have planned to leave early, around 7 am, just to avoid crowds and make the most of our day. In the morning we will meet at Split’s promenade – Riva, where you can have your morning coffee and get on our air–conditioned mini–van or bus. We will drive partly on Adriatic coast and partly in the countryside with a coffee break on the way. Around 11 am we will arrive at one of two entrances of national park (conveniently called Entrance 1 and Entrance 2). Our English-speaking professional guide will take us on tour. Gorgeous views of the lakes and a couple side paths to explore wait for you. Our tour ends with a panoramic train ride. We suppose you will get hungry along the way. Short walk leads to a local tavern for an optional lunch just to try some national specialties. After a memorable day in such spectacular forests and lakes we will return to Split around 8 pm, still excited and full of lasting impressions. Since you are in Split and if you are not tired, we suggest you stay on Split’s promenade and enjoy Mediterranean spirit around you. As you have probably noticed, promenade is full of great restaurants and pleasant cafes where local people discuss daily news and events, so why not and try to copy them? Just sit in one of numerous cafes and share your day with your friends who didn’t go to Plitvice, show them photos or just relax and think about great day you have just had.
